Reference 4 license transfer to another computer

License transfer

You can easily transfer your license to a new device in our user account system! If you haven't created a user account yet, proceed to sign up here.

All regular Reference 4 licenses can be activated and used on 3 devices. EDU licenses (if you've applied and purchased with an educational discount) can only be used on 1 device.

Transferring your license to a new computer

If you have reached the limit and need to transfer your license to a new computer, you will first need to deactivate the device that's no longer going to be used in your user account:

  1. In the upper right-hand corner, hover over 'My Account' and select 'Licenses & Devices' from the dropdowndeactivate3.png
  2. Find your Reference 4 Studio Edition license and click on 'Manage'

  3. Deactivate the device you're no longer going to be using by clicking 'Deactivate' next to your devicedeact3_ref4.png
  4. Proceed to activate the license on your new computer

Deactivation limits

There is a deactivation limit in place in order for the system not to be abused: 7 deactivation events. When the limit is reached it will show up in your user account. After that, any further device deactivation can only be done by the Sonarworks support team manually (to do that please submit a ticket to Sonarworks support)

IMPORTANT! Reinstalling the operating system on your machine or replacing major hardware components (motherboard, hard drive, etc.) can cause it to be recognized as a new computer by the software. Thus, it will require to be activated again, using a new activation seat.

By now you should have had a much better method of license management.  I'm at the end of a project and had to upgrade my harddrive due to critical space issues and now I can't use the software because it thinks its a new computer.   I hope the transfer goes quickly

Hi everyone,

You can now deactivate any machine that's no longer in use yourself! To deactivate the machine, please create the user account here. Once you have registered and verified your email address, add your key and deactivate the device. The new user account system is limited to Reference 4 users for now; you will still need to contact the support team to update the activation details if you're using Reference 3 of True-Fi.

The system is brand new and will be improved over time; please let us know if there's any issues with the process.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, thanks for the comments!

All cases have been resolved in individual support ticket threads :)

We have made a lot of progress with our new licensing and user account system, many updates and improvements later, the new system is now working a lot smoother, and it is a lot more intuitive.
